Charity challenge reaches its peak
4:20pm Friday 3rd September 2010
Eight refinery workers swapped their working boots for walking ones earlier this summer, for a gruelling charity challenge.
The team from the Murco refinery in Milford Haven successfully completed the Three peaks Challenge in June, climbing Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis in less than 24 hours.
The challenge was also a success for the group’s four chosen charities, as the team raised almost £9,000.
The challenge was organised by Dave Moore, who praised local companies and people for donating so generously.
“It is brilliant that people have given so well,” he said.
“We do a challenge like this every year and the people of Pembrokeshire are always prepared to dig deep and help us.”
Overall, £8,883.31 was raised. Help the Heroes received £4,000, and ward 10 at Withybush Hospital, the Pembrokeshire branch of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, and the Thorne Mason Trust all received £1,625.
“We had fun doing the challenge but the icing on the cake for us is being able to hand over the money,” added Dave.
The cheques were presented to representatives of each of the four charities.
