Teenager survives collapse thanks to life-saving action on rugby pitch
4:30pm Friday 3rd September 2010
A LITTLE Haven teenager is recovering after collapsing and almost dying while rugby training.
Owen Grey, 17, collapsed and stopped breathing while training at Haverfordwest rugby club last month.
His life was saved by the quick action of his coach Stephen Barnett, a former paramedic, who started CPR almost immediately.
Helped by Andrew Curtis, his son Will, and police officer Steve O’Leary, paramedics arrived quickly and took Owen to Withybush before being transferred to Morriston Hospital in Swansea.
Without the quick intervention of all involved, Owen, a Tasker Milward pupil, would have died on the rugby pitch.
Owen ‘s dad Andy thanked everyone who had saved his son’s life and added: “It really is a miracle, there’s no other word for it.”
