Mini roundabouts to be trialled at hotspots
6:20pm Sunday 5th February 2012
Two mini roundabouts could be placed at a traffic hotspot between Pembroke and Pembroke Dock under Pembrokeshire County Council proposals to help solve traffic problems in the area.
Members of Pembroke and Pembroke Dock town councils conducted a site visit to the junction between Pembroke Road and Ferry Lane to hear proposals from Pembrokeshire County Council.
In a letter to both town councils, Pembrokeshire County Council’s traffic manager John Price said: “Concern has been expressed at the difficulty of traffic emerging from Pembroke Road and Buttermilk Lane onto the main road. That difficulty would be eased by the use of roundabouts with traffic being required to give way to the right.”
Pembroke town clerk Hugh Colley said: “The feeling of members was the preferred plan would be to reconfigure the junction itself and install one roundabout.
“Members agreed if this was not feasible two mini roundabouts would be implemented on a trial basis.”
Cllr Clive Collins said it would be “very difficult” to achieve a one roundabout configuration on that site.
Local county councillor Arwyn Williams reported that Mr Price was currently looking into the proposals.
Pembroke Dock town clerk Moira Saunders added: “Pembroke Dock town council accepted that the two mini roundabouts were better than nothing being done and agreed. It was understood at the site meeting that the changes would be kept under review and if they were nor effective the situation would be reconsidered.”
In March 2011 the county council approved outline planning permission for up to 150 homes on land off Buttermilk Lane, which also feeds onto the junction.
