Judge brands man as 'professional thief'

10:30am Sunday 12th February 2012

A FATHER-TO-BE with “one of the worst records” a district judge had ever seen, appeared at Haverfordwest magistrates court on Tuesday.

Luke Brummitt, aged 33, of Tregennis Hill Flats, Garnant, Pembroke Dock, admitted stealing a bottle of £5.79 wine from Pennar Post Office on January 1.

The court heard that he later admitted taking two packets of beef from a Co-op store between February 18 and March 5, 2011.

Jonathan Webb, defending, said that Brummitt, who was going to be a father in two weeks, had a long history of offending and addiction to alcohol.

He said that Brummitt had not been drinking for ten days, and now was the time to put some intervention in place.

Brummitt was given a community order with supervision for 12 months, and an alcohol treatment requirement of at least 20 sessions, and ordered to pay £85 costs.

District Judge Manning- Davies said: “You have one of the worst records I have ever seen. You are a professional thief and something needs to be done.

“You need to move forward so you can be a good father to your child.”

Judge Manning-Davies also remitted £1,000 of the £1,895 that Brummitt owed to the court.

He added: “I cannot do anything more for you Mr Brummitt, the future is up to you.”
