Judge gives man a final chance

4:20pm Sunday 19th February 2012

A Pembroke Dock man was given a “final opportunity to sort himself out” when he appeared before a district judge last week.

Robert Marcus William Britton, aged 24, of Meyrick Street, admitted stealing four bottles of rum and whiskey from the Pembroke Dock Tesco store on January 9th, 10th, and 11th.

Haverfordwest magistrates heard that on each occasion, Britton poured the alcohol into a spirit container and consumed it immediately.

Mark Layton, defending, said that Britton, who stole £53.14 worth of alcohol over the three-day period, suffered from a long-standing drink problem.

He said: “It’s being managed, but once a week he will binge drink and things will spiral out of control.”

Probation officer Julie Norman said that Britton used his benefits to fund his alcohol problem, and had to get protein shakes from his doctor because he was malnourished.

Judge Manning-Davies said: “I will give you a final opportunity to sort yourself out.

“If you play fair with me, I will play fair with you.”

He deferred sentence until March 6th, with conditions that Britton complies with his previous community order and commits no more offences.
