Tenby United 5-33 Narberth

8:00pm Wednesday 22nd February 2012

Friendly - TENBY United and Narberth featured in a friendly at Heywood Lane which allowed both squads the chance of a run out.

In the current dearth of rugby caused by the Swalec Competitions and the Six Nations Internationals – the game provided some entertaining rugby for their respective supporters.

Tenby made a bright start and were rewarded when classy centre Toby Flood cut through for an unconverted try in the opening exchanges. It took the Otters until the 21st minute to take the lead with a try from flanker John Bowen, who burst through from the 22, which was converted by outside half Stuart Morris.

Narberth added their second try eight minutes later when centre Richard Davies made the initial break and full back Adam Phillips’ support work was rewarded with a try wide out that Morris did well to convert, giving the Otters a 14-5 interval lead.

Tenby conceded a third try just ten minutes into the second half when they failed to react quickly to a neat little chip ahead by Morris so that Richard Davies gathered and sped to the corner before another excellent Morris conversion put the icing on the cake.

Morris also converted Narberth’s fourth try as winger Nick Jones broke clear but failed to make it five out of five conversion attempts when skipper Steve Martin came on as replacement and showed a clean pair of heels to the Tenby cover defence.

It mattered little, however, because by then the Otters were good value for victory – but Tenby United certainly played their part in an absorbing tussle.
